About Us

Student Technology Services (STS), a unit in IT@JH-Instructional Technologies, is charged to disseminate information about information technology provided by The Johns Hopkins University and to make the use of technology easier for students, specifically those on the Homewood Campus.  This is done by the three groups described below.

Student Technology Consultants

STS employs a large number of knowledgeable Hopkins students, who provide peer-based assistance. Consultants are expected to master a wide range of technologies in addition to developing skills which allows them the ability to provide technical assistance by answering questions and directing students to the many resources made available by JHU.

To save students the frustration of learning computer applications on their own, the consultants create and teach short courses during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Production Staff

STS provides a variety of professional-quality services. We design and publish documents and documentation, in print (newsletters, guides, bulletins, handbooks and brochures) and on-line; multi-media productions; attractive and accessible web sites design and web application development that meet the needs of the Hopkins community. Samples of their work include:

  • A campus modeling project,  Virtual JHU aimed to construct realistic models of JHU campuses starting with Homewood.  In our conception of the final project, up-to-date architectural data (floorplans with data from other sources), will be processed to create 3d models of buildings located on campus using Google Sketchup.
